AMENITIES

Randolph County, Indiana schools are comprised of Randolph Eastern School Corporation, Randolph Central School Corporation, Monroe Central School Corporation, Union School Corporation and Randolph Southern School Corporation. Notable higher education includes Ball State University in Muncie, Indiana. Ball State is one of the best in the Midwest, according to The Princeton Review, offering 190 undergraduate programs and 140 graduate programs.

Near the Indiana-Ohio border, major markets including Indianapolis, Cincinnati, Fort Wayne and Columbus are within a few hours. Local business is bolstered by companies like Anchor Glass Container, Astral Industries Inc., St. Vincent Randolph Hospital and Frank Miller Lumber Company. St. Vincent Randolph is a critical-access hospital providing 24-hour emergency services and long-term acute care.

Among the local entertainment are the Randy Players, Emens Auditorium, Civic Hall Performing Arts Center, Richmond Symphony Orchestra, Art Association of Randolph County and Muncie Civic Theater. Winchester Speedway, Randolph County Fairgrounds, Hickory Hills Golf Course, Cardinal Greenway, McVey Memorial Forest, White River and Wheeler Lake are just a few of the outdoor recreational destinations in the area. CLIMATE

For the most part, Indiana features a humid continental climate with cold winters and hot/wet summers. High temperature in the 80s in the summer and winter lows in the teens are typical. Precipitation includes 39 inches of rain and 19 inches of snow annually.

HISTORY

In 1852 the railroad was extended to the area and Farmland, IN was platted. A post office began operating one year later and the town was incorporated in 1867. The town was likely named for the fertile soil found here. The Farmland Downtown Historic District is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.
